Recently, the Victorian, Tasmanian, South Australian and Queensland Lightning Sprint Associations voted to move away from the existing Australian Lightning Spring Racing Association (ALSRA). The ALSRA had experienced operational and constitutional difficulties since its inception some 12 months ago, and the Associations will now start fresh as the newly formed Lightning Sprint Association (LSA).

NASR’s National division policy requires a minimum of 3 states to be considered as a National division. Previously the Australian Lightning Sprint Racing Association (ALSRA) has been recognised and filled all the criteria; however this is no longer the case as only NSW is represented as part of the ALSRA. As the ALSRA no longer meets the criteria required to be a nationally recognised body, NASR has withdrawn its recognition of the ALSRA.

Lightning Sprints Australia Inc. subsequently applied to NASR for recognition as the National body for Lightning Sprints in Australia and has now been recognised. NASR is increasing its accountability of all divisions who request NASR recognition in order to support and continue to grow these divisions.

NASR acknowledges the LSA is currently represented in Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Queensland, and there are 2 lightning sprint bodies in NSW of which one of these will become the NSW representative body for the LSA. NASR has since been notified by the LSA that the existing NSW Litre Sprint Racing Association has chosen not to affiliate with the LSA, and that the NSW recognised body for lightning sprints will now be headed by Richard Meyers, President of the NSW Lightning Sprint Racing Association.

NASR will no longer recognise any state or club based lightning sprint association who do not form part of the National body.
